I have woken up again this morning with not only the usual stiffness in hands and ankles and other various joints but also feel ‘heavy’ in my chest and tummy. This does happen quite frequently and it wears off after a while but I’m just wondering if this could be RA related?
Does anyone else have these sort of feelings?Huh

Hi Beth

You mean it's not normal???? Doesn't everybody feel like this???? Scared

I do know where you are coming from and get this myself sometimes. I just put it down to the RA and having stayed in one position for far too long in a deep sleep! Sometimes I wake up but can't move at all except to open my eyes and convince myself I'm actually still alive! Gradually the stiffness disappears, limbs wake up and gentle exercise (a must) gets things going enough to get out of bed. Once on my feet the 'heaviness' goes. Must admit I don't worry about it and just assume its part and parcel of the RA. I don't seem to have suffered any long term effects from it and never really thought to mention it to my GP either. Now am wondering Confused hmm ....

Let me know if you come up with an answer and I'll do likewise!!ThumpUp

Hello Lyn
sorry to hear about your pain, but I too get that pain. Seems to start from under my ribs at the front
and extend to me back. Especially bad at the moment - I take paracet but they dont appear to do
much , I had a steriod injection last week so that didnt sort it.

You are not on your own. It is important you attend your appointment though.

Hi Beth,

I feel like a bag of bones Smile most mornings I waken up but once on my feel and after a little stretch I am fine. I think sleeping well does make such a difference with RA. Hope you feel better soon, take care Lorna x

Hi Beth, I wake up every day with aches and stiffness in shoulders wrists and knees and find having a really hot shower loosens me up a treat. Then alittle stretching and taking dog a walk usually settles me for the day. However cant say i look forward to going bed at night cos of next day.Regards John

Hi Beth

I have had this feeling too and like all the others never raised it with anyone. If anything I thought it was side effect of the meds on my stomach . Lovely weather we are having today, which should help us all.

Hi friends, Pains and stiffness in the morning are all part and parcel of our illness.
When complaining about it to my consultant years ago, she suggested that I took my steroids in the evening instead of the morning. Now I take 4 mg predniselone with my evening meal, and I find it really heps me the next day. The stiffness is still there, but not as acute as before.

Love Merete
